The JHF needs you!

Hooray! The Jack Hazeldine Foundation, Family Fun Run Day is back, but with a difference!  Read on to find out more!

In case you haven’t heard of The Jack Hazeldine Foundation which is unlikely as The JHF team are so active in the local community, they are a Clevedon based charity changing the lives of children and young people through the power of mentoring and positive role models. This academic year alone, they have provided over 4000 hours of 1-2-1 mentoring to local children in the local community.

The Hazeldine family founded The JHF in 2012, in memory of Jack who had a huge influence on the development of his grandson Ben Hazeldine, as both a role model and a mentor. Jack’s influence clearly demonstrated how powerful strong role models can be and the positive impact they can have on vulnerable people’s lives.

The aim of the The Jack Hazeldine Foundation is to help support positive changes in behaviour, resulting in improved engagement in education and community involvement. They couldn’t do this without community support which they very clearly have as their community events are always very well attended and raise lots of much needed money. I’ve enjoyed every single one of the events that I’ve been to because they  are so inclusive and great fun for the whole family. The last one, which was a family fun charity sports day was a collaborative event with The JHF’s sister company Future Stars Coaching, a specialist sports development company, who inspire and motivate individuals and organisations to be the best they can be. The next event, a charity fun run takes place on October 13th and is your chance to run, jog or walk 5k or 500m. It is open to all ages and abilities – you might like to help your children run the 500m, race your friends in the 5K or simply enjoy a nice jog whilst taking in the beautiful seaside air and helping a fantastic cause.

It will be similar to the very successful Fun Run The JHF organised last year but with ONE BIG DIFFERENCE:  the 5k route will start at the Bandstand, progress along the beautiful Clevedon sea front and this year, take in two laps on the iconic Pier. This is only possible because Clevedon Pier & Heritage Trust are very kindly offering runners exclusive access to the Pier before it is open to the public at 10.00am.

The children’s 500m route starts near the Bandstand and will be along the sea front. Parents are encouraged to run with smaller children and for health and safety reasons the children’s 500m will NOT be taking place on the Pier.

Waiting for the Fun Run to start

These are the registration times:

8.15am –    Registration opens at the Bandstand.

9.00am –    5k run along Clevedon sea front incorporating two laps of Clevedon Pier.

10.30am –  Children’s 500m run near Clevedon Bandstand

The cost (cash only) is £4 for children and includes a participation certificate and £8 for adults.

You need to bring your own water but there will be tea and coffee available on a first come first served basis after the 5K has taken place. If you’re worried about toilets don’t be because there are public toilets available behind the Clevedon Bowling Club, which is just a few minutes’ walk from the Bandstand, although it will cost you 20p. There will be first aider on site should anyone need attention.

Parking is available free of charge along Elton Road and there is paid public parking at The Hawthorns which is opposite the Bandstand or at Salt House Fields Car Park for a fee.

If running is not your thing then there are still numerous ways that you could get involved. The JHF are looking for volunteer marshals, check in helpers and people to bake for the refreshment stall.

Please email kate@thejhf.org if you would like to help with any of this.
