It was exactly one year ago today that I had the pleasure of featuring Lisa, the award-winning chocolatier behind The Chocolate Tart, in my Humans of Clevedon series. I loved learning about Lisa’s journey from the founder of her catering company to creating her own artisan chocolate school right here in Clevedon. The story was a huge hit, becoming one of my most popular posts in 2023 with over 6,000 views and a flurry of comments and messages from fellow chocolate lovers! You can read it here.
It was in 2005, while preparing a dinner for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, that a spark ignited within Lisa. The seed of an idea was sown—to establish a chocolate school and share the artistry of the chocolatier with the world. Now, her classes welcome anyone with a passion for chocolate, from eager 10-year-olds to enthusiastic centenarians.
Lisa has been very much on my mind recently because this Christmas, I’m really excited to try something a little different. Instead of the usual presents, I’d love to gift an experience that we can enjoy together. It’s a chance to create amazing memories and spend quality time with the people I care about most. I’m putting a lot of thought into each person, trying to find something that really reflects their individual passions and interests. I think it’ll be a much more personal and meaningful way to celebrate the holidays.
Lisa has two lovely workshops planned for November 29th and 30th that combine the artistry of chocolate-making with the festive charm of creating your own Christmas wreath.
In the morning, you’ll delve into the world of handmade chocolates and learn the techniques and secrets behind these gorgeous treats. Then, you’ll get to package your creations into one of two beautifully designed Advent calendars – what a unique and personal gift! After a delicious two-course lunch with welcome drinks and cakes, the afternoon will be dedicated to crafting a stunning moss-based Christmas wreath under the guidance of the super-talented florist Maciej. It’s a full day of creativity, delicious food, and festive fun all in one! You’ll find further details here.
I’ve just noticed that Lisa is offering a free place at one of the workshops on social media. You just have to follow Lisa @thechocolatetartuk and Maciej @flowersevolution on Facebook and/or Instagram and tag a friend or family member who loves being creative with chocolate and flowers! The winner will be notified on 21st November.
So, if you know someone who adores all things chocolate, has a flair for festive crafts, or simply deserves a day of pampering and creativity, why not share this wonderful opportunity with them? Perhaps you have a friend who’s a budding chocolatier, a sister with a passion for floristry, or a parent who deserves a special treat. Even better, why not join them and make it a shared experience? With Lisa’s competition offering a chance to win a free spot, there’s no reason not to spread the word and give someone the gift of a truly unforgettable day.
The day-long Christmas workshops are just one of many chocolate-making experiences that Lisa offers; she has something to suit all levels and interests. Whether you’re a complete novice or a seasoned enthusiast, there’s something to tantalise your taste buds and ignite your creativity.
For those seeking a delightful introduction to the world of chocolate, Lisa offers shorter workshops starting at one and a half hours. In these, you can learn to craft your own beautifully packaged chocolate box or explore techniques like hand-rolling and enrobing. If you’re eager to delve deeper, Lisa also provides comprehensive four-hour masterclasses or one-on-one classes that unravel the science of tempering and equip you with professional skills.
Beyond individual workshops, Lisa caters to groups. She even hosts children’s birthday parties (minimum age school year 6, making it a perfect activity for a special occasion or a fun day out with friends and family. With varying durations and price points, there’s an option for everyone to experience the joy of chocolate making.
Who would have thought a chocolate-making class could be such a scrumptious team-building event? Lisa, in collaboration with the recruitment agency @ea.change, certainly did! They crafted a truly delightful experience for the Bristol office.
Teams were given the option to invigorate themselves with a dip in the refreshing Clevedon Marine Lake or enjoy a leisurely stroll along the picturesque seafront. Afterwards, everyone gathered for a quick drink and some friendly banter at The Royal Oak on Copse Road.
The real fun began as they stepped into the warmth of their chosen venue, greeted by the inviting aroma of freshly prepared Old Street Fish and Chips. Owner Joe, with his infectious smile, ensured everyone was well-fed and ready for the main event.
Then, it was time to unleash their inner chocolatiers! Participants delved into the art of crafting handmade chocolates, indulging in delectable samples along the way. The room buzzed with laughter and creativity as they personalised their creations with colourful ribbons and stickers.
The evening proved to be a resounding success, leaving everyone with sweet memories (and even sweeter treats!) to savour. It was a truly unique and engaging way to foster team spirit and camaraderie outside of the usual office setting. These events can happen here in Clevedon or can be brought to your office anywhere in the Bristol/South West area. During the week, Lisa has access to a central Clifton venue, Coppa, where you can enjoy a meal before or after your event. Lisa already has bookings for group workshops next year, taking her deep into Wales!
Remember how I mentioned that Lisa’s inspiration for The Chocolate Tart stemmed from a very special occasion – preparing a dinner for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II? Well, now you can experience a taste of that royal magic yourself! Lisa offers a delightful Pudding Fit for a Queen workshop, a 1.5-hour hands-on experience where you’ll learn to create the exact same dessert that graced the Queen’s table.
Lisa herself will guide you through the process, sharing her expert tips and techniques. You’ll get to hear the fascinating story of how this unique pudding came to be and Lisa’s journey to founding The Chocolate Tart. You’ll get to actively participate in creating these delectable desserts, and you’ll take home four of your own handcrafted puddings to share.
This workshop is a must for any dessert enthusiast or anyone curious to experience a touch of royal culinary history. These workshops are for groups of four, and dates can be requested to fit around everyone’s busy schedules. You can book your vouchers here for a unique Christmas present and liaise with Lisa to agree on the perfect date.
And finally, Lisa’s Festive Baking & Lunch Experience!
This Christmas, why not embrace the joy of homemade goodness! At this unique and festive workshop, you’ll learn to create your very own Christmas cake and a selection of delectable goodies.
Imagine crafting your own Christmas cake filled with the aromas of homemade spices and festive cheer. Not only will you learn to bake a cake that will impress your friends and family, but you’ll also discover the secrets to creating delicious treats like Florentines, marshmallows, and even a mouthwatering wild mushroom and saffron risotto. And that’s not all! Lisa will also guide you through making homemade marzipan, rich chocolate salami, and a tangy Christmas chutney. This is more than just a baking class; it’s a full sensory experience, complete with welcome drinks, homemade bakes, and a delicious two-course lunch shared with newfound friends. Leave with a beautiful cake to bake at home, unique homemade gifts, and the confidence to create culinary magic this Christmas. It sounds like an unforgettable festive adventure!
You have to admit that there is a pretty impressive range of experiences on offer from The Chocolate Tart.
Aside from all the mouth-watering chocolates on the website for the first time this year, Lisa is also selling a very special, unique Advent calendar. She has partnered with local Clevedon artist Becky Allen to create a limited-edition calendar that is as much a feast for the eyes as it is for the palate.
This is a unique collaboration featuring Becky Allen’s @rebecca__arts distinctive artwork in a stunning design that will brighten your home throughout December. Behind each window awaits a delectable surprise: Two each of twelve handcrafted chocolates by Liisa, each one a miniature masterpiece of flavour and artistry. This exquisite Advent calendar is the perfect way to indulge in the magic of Christmas, offering a daily dose of beauty and gourmet delight. But there are only a hundred on offer, and as I write this, Lisa tells me that half are already pre-ordered, so don’t hesitate if you’d like to own one! You can order yours here before they disappear!
Becky is also selling her stunning artwork as Christmas cards, which you can order here.
You can see why I’ve been thinking a lot about Lisa lately! It’s all because I want to give an experience this year, something truly memorable, instead of a traditional gift. Her chocolate workshops seem like the perfect fit! They offer such a delightful escape, a chance to dive headfirst into the art of chocolate making and create something truly special with your own hands.
I can imagine us all getting together, laughing and learning as we craft our own delicious treats. The festive charm of the Christmas Wreath & Chocolate Advent Calendar Workshop would be amazing and who could resist A Pudding Fit for a Queen class? It sounds absolutely wonderful! Of course, if we’re looking for a deep dive into the world of chocolate, the masterclasses would be an incredible learning experience.
Honestly, with all these amazing options, there’s something to tempt every chocolate lover in the family… and we definitely qualify as a family of chocolate lovers!
