What’s on?

As so many events have been cancelled, I had the depressing job of removing them from these pages yesterday.

I love these particular pages because they are a daily reminder of what a vibrant town we live in and how happy I am to be part of this kind, caring community .

I wasn’t happy just leaving it as it was so I’ve decided to post at least one item in the calendar every day. It may actually be an event like the ‘The 24 Hour Kids Party’, it may be a puzzle, a story, a joke, a thought for the day, a poem. perhaps just a link…….. but it will be something positive, something lovely, something to put a smile on your face.

Theatre Shop: The Killer Question – Just Some Theatre – 7.30pm – £12 – 12+ – 85 mins. (including interval)

The Silence Of The Lambs meets Last Of The Summer Wine in dark comedy thriller The Killer Question.

Former game show champion Walter Crump lives for murder (it was even his specialist subject on the nerve shredding, general knowledge quiz show The Chair). But did his obsession with death ultimately lead to his own? That’s certainly what Inspector Black believes, and now it is Crump’s dopey widow Margaret who finds herself in the chair – accused of her husband’s murder.

But as shocking details emerge about the events leading up to Walter’s final head to head, it quickly transpires that what started out as an open and shut case has turned into another game altogether: the cat and mouse variety, with more than one deadly twist in the tale. Will Inspector Black solve the mystery? Will Margaret be home in time for Country File? Who will prove to be the ultimate victim of The Chair?

And, just as important, which actor will play which character… the audience decides!  Book your tickets here: https://bit.ly/2vzDAzw

Theatre Shop: Jeremiah – Jack Dean – 7.30pm – £12 – 14+ – 120 mins including interval.

An explosive new show with live music from award-winning storyteller Jack Dean.

On the 9th of June 1817, Jeremiah Brandreth assembles a crew of malcontents in a pub near Nottingham. Their plan is to march on London, overthrow the government, wipe out the National Debt and end poverty forever. What Jeremiah doesn’t know is that there is a spy in his ranks with other ideas…

Jeremiah tells the incredible true story of the much-misunderstood Luddite rebellion – a movement that spanned the whole of northern England and had more British soldiers fighting it than Napoleon. Ever thought about a House of Lords debate staged as a rap battle? Accompanied by a cellist, violinist and guitarist fusing hip hop beats with cinematic orchestration the story is told through the lens of the life of Jeremiah Brandreth, the instigator of the Luddites’ final stand and the last man in British History to be beheaded by axe for High Treason.  Book tickets here: https://bit.ly/2vxUWN2

Clevedon Pier and Heritage Trust: Instant Wit Comedy Night – 7.30pm to 10.00pm – £13 includes Pier entry.

An evening of songs, gags and general silliness – all of it based around audience suggestions. How about an opera set on the International Space Station? Or even a visit to a singing hairdresser where they try to solve their client’s problems, that have been selected by you? But don’t worry, nobody is forced to participate and they have even build in a section where anonymous suggestions, written down in the interval, can be acted out. Good suggestions receive flying packets of custard; the best of the evening gets a bottle of wine!

Many people have seen improvised comedy on the TV but remember, this is not recorded and edited, but totally live! If you like your comedy fast-paced and with a slightly unusual edge, this is definitely for you.

Instant Wit use some of the best of local talent and squad members include Jon Monie (Peter Pan Theatre Royal Bath), Vince Pellegrino (Casualty BBC) Peta Maurice (Rapunzel Theatre Royal Bath)) plus Artistic Directors Stephanie Weston and Chris Grimes.

Clevedon Open Water Events: Swim Run – Swim Run is very popular in the UK but this particular one was one of the earliest starting in 2017. Originating from Sweden, traditional races are called Otillo, typically are over 30k and are amied at elite athletes who run in pairs tethered together (and cost a small fortune to enter)

Clevedon Swimrun is more about the fun, a much shorter accessible course – the total distance is about 7k with just over 1k of swimming and you run on your own, not as a pair. The course is split into five runs with a short swim in between each, two in the lake and two in the sea. You can keep your running gear on to swim and carry your swimming gear when you run.

Entry is £20 pp Under 18s must provide signed consent form, minimum age 12 by event date. People with disabilities welcome, please contact the club to discuss how you can be safely included.

Clevedon Community Centre and Princes Hall: CLOC Juniors – Rock of Ages – The Musical – 7.30pm and 10.00pm – It’s the tail end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, Heavy Metal flow freely at one of the Sunset Strips last legendary venues, a place where legendary rocker Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and groupies line up for their chance at an autograph. Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes). But the rock and roll fairy-tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherri, and the gang save the strip–and themselves–before it’s too late? Only the music of hit bands Twisted Sister, Europe, Styx, Whitesnake and more hold the answer.

Featuring songs such as:
Hit me with your best shot, Here I go again, We built this city….. any many other classic rock anthems!

Friday 1st January 2021

With so much going on, it’s very easy to miss something so I thought to have a ‘go to place’ like this would be really useful. If you have anything you would like me to add to this calendar of events, then just send me a link to contact@facesofclevedon.com or send me details of date, time, venue, cost and any other essential information. I won’t be able to keep this fresh without your support.
