MOVE IT! For the sixth year running, inspirational Clevedon students enjoyed an amazing four day visit to the world’s biggest and best dance convention – MOVE IT!
MOVE IT is a unique, high energy, magical event, bringing together over 30,000 dancers, artists, teachers and professionals with brands, schools and colleges from across the U.K. and Europe. It is a high energy, magical event celebrating all forms of dance and the performing arts.
The MOVE IT family believe in the power of dance to discover and express who you really are; and that dance should be available to everyone. Their flagship event is the heartbeat of the dance world, uniting dancers of all disciplines, backgrounds and levels. Their mission is to connect the community throughout the year – so they come together, learn together and move together.
Whatever your age, background, ability or confidence level – MOVE IT brings the world of dance together; creativity and passion is all that matters.
Some of the best sessions the students attended were Musical Theatre with Wilke’s Academy of Performing Arts; musical theatre jazz in the style of West Side Story by Razzamataz Theatre Schools, where they leant the moves and choreography from the classic musical, West Side Story – unprecedented in mixing a contemporary and modern story line with jazz and Latin styles of music and dance; contemporary contact improvisation with FUSON Dance & Fitness – which provided an opportunity for students to discover, create and share their own movement while learning some contact improvisation using the fundamentals of contemporary dance; Zoonation where students got a taste of what training is like in this dynamic company and what is expected at annual auditions!; Carnival Fitness (HIIT and Dance Fitness) with Zaiah Arts Ltd where they experienced feel-good fitness as HIIT Workouts met Caribbean Soca and a live DJ! It all sounded like a lot of fun.
Clevedon School is one of the best schools in the UK for encouraging students to dancing, acting and performing.
Head of Dance and Drama Deb Morgan said: “This was an incredible trip and the students were left buzzing. It was a breathtaking four day glimpse of some of the world’s biggest names and opportunities available for their careers.”
Last month, some of the very same students wowed audiences in Bristol for Chinese New Year. They performed as part of the Bristol Museum celebrations and also at the Wai Yee Hong Chinese Supermarket. The organisers of both events were proud to have the school dancers and commented on their professionalism and talent. If you have a look at last year’s programme here: it will give you an idea of what happens. You might like to go along and see these talented students in action next year which is the Year of the Rat.
The previous year the students performed a Tibetan dance routine and this year a Miao routine from Southern China. Dancers were choreographed by former teacher trainee at Clevedon School Joy Cheung. Students have already been booked for 2020 celebrations.
