SALTED ROOTS

A FESTIVAL FOR EVERYONE

The Salted Roots Festival, an annual highlight on Clevedon’s calendar, is set for Saturday, September 6th, 2025, starting at 11.30 a.m. and finishing at 1.00 a.m. on Sunday. This immersive celebration of arts, music, culture, and community takes place at The Salthouse Bar & Restaurant, offering a unique seaside experience overlooking the iconic Marine Lake. This vibrant, Caribbean-inspired event is a true spectacle of ‘all things sunshine,’ bringing a lively atmosphere to Clevedon.

More than just a music festival, Salted Roots is a family-friendly affair run by dedicated, like-minded locals with a passion for community. While it features a hand-picked selection of artists spanning genres from reggae, dub, and ska to jungle and drum & bass, it also provides a wealth of activities and entertainment for all ages. The grounds transform into a bustling marketplace offering Caribbean food, drinks, arts, and crafts. Children and young people are especially welcome, with free activities, classes, and workshops that ensure the entire family can ‘dance and smile the day away.’

THE CATALYST: TAKING THE FESTIVAL TO THE NEXT LEVEL

This year’s event is titled Chapter 4 ‘The Catalyst,’ as organisers are upscaling every aspect of the festival to create a truly immersive experience. They are focusing on smells, sounds, and sights, decorating the grounds and interior stage with vibrant colours. The festival will host two stages throughout the day, providing a variety of music scenes and genres. There will also be magicians, a games room for children, and a dance area for adults.

The festival aims to foster a vibrant and inclusive community, promoting unity, supporting local artists, and providing a space for positive cultural expression. It’s a day-to-night journey that unites lovers of bass culture and live music in a beautiful coastal setting, creating a lasting sense of connection and joy.

A STELLAR LINEUP

As we dive into the incredible lineup of artists performing this year, it’s clear that the festival is more than just an event; it’s a movement that celebrates the rich musical roots that connect us all. The organisers chose the acts by listening to feedback from previous years and sourcing local talent.

There are far too many acts to include in this blog, but here’s a closer look at some of them.

DR MEAKER

Top billing for me goes to the musical powerhouse that is Dr Meaker! Bristol-based Dr Meaker is a tight-knit collective of talented musicians who bring their unique skills to the stage: Clive Meaker (producer, keyboards, & vocals), Celestine (vocals) Tenisha Edwards (vocals), Laurent John (vocals) Tom Wheeler (drums) Ben Wood (saxophone) and Simon Alexander (trumpet)

Their journey to fame began with a bang! After their track ‘Rubber Gloves’ debuted on BBC Radio 1, they won the Dance Music category at the Glastonbury Festival Unsigned Competition. This victory earned them a prime-time slot at the festival, and their killer set led to a whirlwind of gigs and the release of their debut single, ‘Moving And Grooving.’

By 2008, their first studio album, A Lesson From The Speaker, was released to critical acclaim. It earned them airtime on major stations like BBC Radio 1, 1XTRA, and XFM. Their star continued to rise when they performed on BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Live Lounge, where their cover of Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ was featured on the popular Live Lounge album, hitting No. 1 in the UK charts!

Their 2014 single ‘Right Back’ propelled them into mainstream success, becoming a UK Top 40 dance hit. This led to a full album deal, and in 2016, they dropped their second studio LP, ‘Dirt & Soul.’  The album soared to No. 3 on the iTunes Electronic charts and became the No. 1 selling Drum & Bass album in the world upon its release.

The band have clearly stated that their mission is ‘to take Live Drum & Bass across the World, Bristol Style‘. They’ve been tirelessly touring, making their international debuts in places like the Netherlands, Switzerland, Los Angeles, Hungary and Ghana.

In 2024 alone, they played at more than twenty festivals, including Glastonbury, Boomtown Fair, Isle of Wight, and Shambhala. And the journey continues! Their new album, ‘Distorted Sun’, dropped in late 2024, accompanied by a major European tour that has kept them on the road in 2025. They’ve been on fire, playing to huge crowds at festivals like Sziget and the Riptide Festival, and headlining venues like The Fleece in their hometown of Bristol.

The Salted Roots Festival is the perfect stage for a band like Dr Meaker, who’ve built their career on a powerful live sound. With their dynamic stage presence and a setlist packed with hits from their new album ‘Distorted Sun,’ it’s clear we’re in for an unforgettable performance. We’re incredibly lucky to have them at the Salted Roots Festival to bring their legendary Bristol sound to Clevedon.

IRIE FIRE

Joining the lineup at Salted Roots is the high-energy, eight-piece reggae fusion band, Irie Fire. Hailing from the South-West of England, this dynamic group has been electrifying audiences since their formation in 2016.

Irie Fire’s sound is a rich, soulful blend of reggae, dub, ska, rock, and blues, creating a truly unique sonic experience. They’ve made a name for themselves on the UK music scene, gracing the stages of iconic venues and well-established festivals, and even supporting some of the world’s most celebrated international artists.

Adding to their impressive credentials, Irie Fire has a strong connection to Friendly Fire Music, the Birmingham-based label and recording studio specialising in live roots and reggae revival. This collaboration is a testament to their authentic sound and commitment to the genre. Friendly Fire Music is also home to the Friendly Fire Band and the long-running Jam Jah Sound—a legacy that speaks volumes about the quality and vibe Irie Fire brings to the table.

When you see them live, you can expect an unforgettable performance designed to brighten your soul. Irie Fire’s set is a feast for the senses, featuring luscious vocals, hair-raising horn riffs, shredding solos, and the infectious grooves of their rhythm section. Their music is pure joy, and they guarantee you’ll be up on your feet, vibing to their irresistible reggae beat.

JAMES IRIE

Everyone is very excited to have Jamie Irie joining the festival this year.

Born and raised in the vibrant, multicultural city of Gloucester, England, Jamie’s musical journey began not in a studio, but by simply listening. His childhood was filled with the powerful sounds of reggae and dancehall legends like Big Youth, Tappa Zukie, and Mighty Diamonds. But it was the friendships he formed—with names like Daddy Freddy, Tenafly, Sir Coxson HIFI, and the late Ivan O Campbell from Severn Sound radio that truly ignited his passion. These influences helped him build a love for Jamaican music that would shape the rest of his life.

Before long, Jamie was writing and singing his own reggae and dancehall tunes, which led him to some of the biggest names in New York and Jamaica. His journey has seen him tour and perform alongside icons like Shaggy, Elephant Man, Ninjaman, and Buju Banton. He’s even taken the stage with legendary sounds like Mighty Stone Love and Bodyguard Sound.

Jamie’s talent caught the attention of some of the most respected producers in the game, leading to collaborations with Jamaican superstar Sly Dunbar, Computer Paul, and even heavyweight champion Mike Tyson’s own label, Iron Mike. His hard work paid off with chart hits like ‘M16’ and ‘Sweet Sensimilla’ with Gigsy King.

But his connection to the music isn’t just about the collaborations; it’s about the deep dive. Jamie spent significant time living in the heart of Kingston’s ‘13’ area, recording music, shooting videos, and touring the island, soaking up the culture that inspired him from the start.

Today, Jamie is continuing his musical journey with the acclaimed reggae band House of Riddim and is currently collaborating with top jungle and D&B producer Rcola on a new EP called ‘Kingston 13’. Be on the lookout for new releases and a tour to follow! We can’t wait to see what he brings to the stage.

ANDY V

Few artists can build an entire world of sound from the stage, but that’s exactly what Andy V does. After making his mark on the UK and European dance scene, he returned home to Australia with a refined vision and a unique one-man-band setup. Andy V’s music is a reflection of his diverse influences—a love letter to the deep grooves of Fat Freddy’s Drop and The Black Seeds, infused with the electrifying energy of DJ/producers like Shy FX. It’s this powerful combination of sounds that has earned him a reputation for creating something truly original.

What sets Andy V apart is not just the sound itself, but the way he creates it. His performance is a live journey of pure creation. With his saxophone, keyboards, and a cutting-edge loop station, he builds his tracks layer by layer, right in front of the audience. You’ll watch him lay down a deep reggae bassline, add a soulful keyboard melody, and then unleash a fiery saxophone riff—all woven together into a high-energy, dance-driven tapestry. It’s a testament to his passion for connection and performance, a skill honed through powerful collaborations with fellow Aussie heavyweights like The Cat Empire and his experience supporting beatbox legend Dub FX.

Having already become a fixture on Australia’s major festival circuit, Andy V is an artist on the rise, and the Salted Roots team are stoked to have him bring his captivating, crowd-rocking spectacle to the Festival. Get ready to experience a full-body sonic journey, because when Andy V takes the stage, he doesn’t just play music; he orchestrates a full-on spectacle guaranteed to get the entire crowd moving. You won’t want to miss a second of his set.

“Finding Andy V’s music has been a real treasure. Dance and have your mind blown by virtuosic musicianship, Andy V is your human. Soulful dubs, liquid Drum and Bass with dexterity over woodwind, keyboards, and loops. It’s compelling and musically intimidating.”

RUDEBOY MORRIS

When you hear the name of DJ and producer Rudeboy Morris, you’re not just hearing a stage name—you’re hearing the rhythm of the Salted Roots Festival itself. More than a musician, Rudeboy Morris is a storyteller, a cultural ambassador, and the charismatic force behind some of the most memorable moments at previous festivals. His music is a rich tapestry woven from the sounds of reggae, ska, and dub, all filtered through a lens of soulful authenticity.

Born with a natural gift for rhythm and a deep appreciation for the roots of Jamaican music, Rudeboy Morris has spent his life honing his craft. His performances are legendary for their infectious energy and powerful connection with the audience. Whether he’s dropping a heavy bassline that makes the sand vibrate under your feet or delivering a heartfelt lyric that speaks to the soul, every note he plays is a testament to his passion for music.

But it’s not just about the music. Rudeboy Morris brings a message of unity, resilience, and good vibes. He often speaks about the importance of community and the power of music to bring people together, transcending borders and differences. At Salted Roots, his presence is a staple—he’s the guy you see on stage one minute and then chatting with fans by the food stalls the next.

This year, Rudeboy Morris promises to bring a special set that will capture the spirit of Salted Roots perfectly. Expect a mix of his classic crowd-pleasers and new material that reflects his ongoing musical journey. Get ready to feel the groove, sing along, and become part of the vibrant tapestry that is a Rudeboy Morris performance. Don’t miss the chance to experience the heartbeat of the festival.

PEPPERY

Hailing from the Wire Fence district in Trelawny, Jamaica, Peppery, whose real name is Clayton Brown, has been a significant presence in the UK’s reggae and dancehall scene for many years. Now based in Manchester, he has successfully cultivated a career that bridges his Jamaican roots with his UK base. The youngest of four children, Clayton was surrounded by a supportive family who never discouraged his early interest in the entertainment industry.

Originally performing under the moniker ‘Bongo Chilli,’ the name ‘Peppery’ began as a simple slogan, a catchy tag he would use to sign off his performances. To his surprise, the name resonated so deeply with audiences and producers that it became his unofficial stage name. He recalls one instance where a producer, despite receiving the track files labelled ‘Bongo Chilli,’ released the record under the name ‘Peppery.’  It seemed the name was destined to be his, and he embraced it fully, never looking back

This change marked a pivotal moment in his career, solidifying his identity in the music world. Peppery’s unique style blends the rhythmic foundations of reggae with the vibrant, energetic flair of dancehall. His lyrical content often touches on themes of social justice, motivation, and everyday life, delivered with a captivating flow that has earned him a dedicated following.

Over the years, Peppery has built an impressive discography, releasing numerous singles and being featured on many compilations. His music has gained traction within the UK’s reggae community and beyond, leading to performances at a wide array of venues and festivals across Europe. His journey from a young artist in Trelawny to a respected figure in the UK music scene is a testament to his talent, perseverance, and the universal appeal of his sound. He has collaborated with notable artists and continues to be a prominent voice in the modern reggae and dancehall landscape, consistently sharing his message and rhythm with the world. He is a multi-talented force who has been instrumental in building the scene from the ground up—from constructing powerful sound systems to producing and publishing music. As the CEO of Urbanfront Records, an artist agency, and a PA hire company, he brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the music he loves.

Scotty’s passion for nurturing the next generation of artists is a testament to his character.
