This monumental acquisition seals a rare opportunity for the town. By bringing Market Hall into the fold alongside the magnificent Victorian Pier, the Trust creates a vibrant, welcoming haven for local history, arts, and human connection. Both architectural masterpieces share a fascinating pedigree: renowned Victorian architect Hans Price designed both structures, crafting a unique design legacy that continues to define Clevedon’s skyline. For over 160 years, the pier has swept out over the Bristol Channel, linking people to the tides and to each other. Now, Market Hall joins that proud tradition, promising a future filled with interactive exhibitions, creative gatherings, performance spaces, and rich educational workshops for generations to come.

Back in 1997, the Trust purchased Waterloo House, holding it as a key community asset for nearly three decades. When Market Hall became available, the Trust’s Board recognised a once in a generation chance. They made the bold, strategic decision to sell Waterloo House and reinvest every single penny directly back into the beating heart of the town.
Realising a dream of this scale takes a dedicated village. Former owner Petros Charalambous guided the complex conveyancing process with immense patience and professionalism throughout the sale. At the same time, local estate agent Mark Templer and skilled legal teams navigated every intricate detail, guiding the complex transaction toward a triumphant resolution.

Protecting a magnificent Victorian seaside treasure like Clevedon Pier requires roughly £160,000 every single year in maintenance and conservation costs. The salt air, sweeping winds, and powerful tides demand constant upkeep to ensure the wooden planks and ironwork remain safe and open for all to enjoy.
As a charitable community benefit society, the Trust relies directly on the ongoing passion and involvement of the public. Every ticket bought at the tollhouse, every annual membership purchased, every gift shop item selected, and every donation made plays a direct role in keeping the pier standing strong. Market Hall does not replace this vital funding stream; instead, it strengthens the Trust’s broader mission to safeguard Clevedon’s architectural treasures and provide vibrant public spaces where memories are made.
